I speak to strangers when I can. I look out for opportunities, try and suss out the ones who are open with their eyes to be open with their memories. Most people are. Most people like to share their stories, share the challenges and joys that have shaped their outlook. I spoke to the old guy at the bus stop who pointed to where he’d gone to school and talked of times gone by and the bigger picture of change, and the guy on the train who told me about potato harvests and the woman who told me all about Gary, the builder and her square friends. People are immense, with all our differing pasts in a shared time and space. Each person, such an opportunity to learn.
