Back in 2014 I was at Elephant and Castle roundabout in London, it hadn’t had its makeover so was still going around clockwise. I remember standing on the pavement watching a massive flatbed truck ceremoniously carrying Phyllida Barlow’s dismantled sculptures to Tate Britain two miles away - many many long planks of painted wood and plaster and fabric stuff. I stood there, a big grin on my face and I thought, wow, what a privilege to see something that’s usually so three dimensional and so BIG and so monumental, now flat-packed!
<aside> ✍️ When planning your artwork, take your time and pace yourself so you’re not making last-minute orders and therefore, probably creating less waste. Make prototypes - small versions - so you’re more efficient with your materials. Make the work so it can be dismantled for easy travel and think about the future of the work from the start of the process.
