Writing these stories and points makes the importance of slowing down so much more obvious for both our own wellbeing and for the wellbeing of the planet. It’s hard to slow down in a fast world but it’s not impossible and it feels like a good direction to aim towards. I saw a show by Shimabuku at the Ikon Gallery in Birmingham. He had decided to travel from London to Birmingham by narrowboat and realised his two week boat ride would be the same amount of a time for a cucumber to be transformed into a pickle. ‘Slow food for a slow journey’ he called it.
<aside> 🍽️ If food is provided as part of your exhibitions, projects or events, you can ask for more environmentally responsible food and drink options such as vegan, local, and seasonal choices. Also, try to eliminate single-use materials like disposable cups and water bottles.
